Wedding Morning Musts

There are a few “must do's” to ensure the smooth delivery of hair and makeup…

As a successful hairstylist and makeup artist who provides on-site services for over 100 weddings each year, I’ve learned what is essential to ensuring the bride and bridal party are well-prepared on the morning of an event. Here is what I try to encourage every bride and party do to make services go as seamless and smooth as possible.

📅 SCHEDULE

Make sure the bride and bridal party are aware of the schedule for the day. Confirm the start time and allocate sufficient time for each person to ensure everyone gets their desired look.

💆‍♀️CLEAN HAIR & FACE

Instruct everyone who is receiving services to have clean, dry hair and a clean face with no makeup or products applied before your arrival. This provides a clean canvas to work on.

🚿 HAIR PREPARATION

If specific hairstyles are planned, advise everyone to wash and blow-dry their hair the night before the wedding if applicable, this can help with styling and holding the hair in place.

🧴SKIN CARE

Encourage everyone to follow their regular skincare routines, with a focus on moisturizing and sun protection. Avoid any last-minute experiments or new products that might cause irritation.

☀️PROPER LIGHTING

Ensure there is adequate, natural lighting in the getting-ready area. It's essential for makeup application and hair styling to be done under appropriate lighting conditions. Avoid pulling shades and lamp lighting. Try to choose a bright spot and use extra lighting like ring lights if necessary.

💤 RELAXATION

Encourage everyone to stay relaxed and well-rested the night before and leading up to the wedding. Stress and exhaustion can absolutely affect not only how you feel but the final look as well.

🥗 FOOD & HYDRATION

This one is for the bride and bridal party but also for my people in the industry!! You have to eat! Have a light meal and stay hydrated. Dehydration can impact skin and hair condition. Avoid heavy, greasy foods that can cause bloating.

⏰ ON TIME / SCHEDULE

The bride and bridal party be ready and dressed for your arrival to ensure you have enough time for hair and makeup application. This is especially important for large parties and early mornings.

🗣️ COMMUNICATION

Keep the lines of communication open. If there are any last-minute changes or concerns, they should be communicated in advance to allow for adjustments in the schedule. I ALWAYS text my brides the night before and/or the morning of and it has saved so many headaches around last minute changes!

👰‍♀️ HAIR ACCESSORIES

If there are any hair accessories, veils, or headpieces, have these ready upon arrival so that they can be incorporated into the hairstyle seamlessly.

🍾 ATMOSPHERE 🎶

Set the tone! Stylists and makeup artists are typically the first vendor a bride will see on their wedding day. Pump up the music, pop some bubbly, bring the party! I love being a part of people’s most exciting day… bring that hype!

🚨 EMERGENCY KIT

Have a bridal emergency kit on hand for any last-minute touch-ups or unforeseen issues. This may include extra pins, hairspray, blotting paper, and a few makeup essentials.

👩‍💼 POINT OF CONTACT

If there isn’t a wedding planner, designate a point of contact within the bridal party who can assist with any coordination, last-minute questions, or concerns. The bride is already going to have a lot going on that day, try to not add to that.

🕰️ TIMING (AGAIN!)

Because this is so important I’m putting it again and last. I cannot stress the importance of being punctual enough, delays can have a cascading effect on the entire schedule for the day and put the ceremony and other vendors off.

By ensuring that the bride and bridal party follow these guidelines, you can create a smooth and stress-free experience for everyone, ensuring the entire party looks and feels their best on this special day.

Cheers, Love, & Sparkles,
